probably just demonstrating my ignorance, but here goes:

i live in a 2 story apt. the router has to be upstairs (netgear mr814), and there are two computers on the network that are usually downstairs: my laptop and my roommate's imac. the signal is sometimes spotty (or my mini-pci card is weak) downstairs and, as i said, i have a wet11. is there anyway i could hook it up to the imac to boost the signal downstairs?

No.

It works as a Client, or Ad-Hoc.

You want inexpensive repeater get D-Link 900AP+ (11/22/44Mb/sec.).

44 Mb for the D-Link 900AP+?...and they aren't even advertising it on their own website. Interesting.

Latest fimware of 900AP+, and the PCMCIA 650+ pushes the 22Mhz (I

get you upset when I call it Turbo b) to 44Mb/sec. For 44Mb/sec. mode you need to use the 900AP+ & 650+ as a pair.
