Can a GPU (or G MEM) screw a motherboard?

I've attempted to v-mod a 7900 GT to 1.4V (from default 1.2V) and was amazed by the easiness and effectiveness of the v-mod. Like (probably) many, I got even greedier and decided on 1.5V, then 1.55V, etc.

So of course my card is near non-functional and only good for 2D now. (Well the price to pay for being greedy) But the strange thing is, ever since my GPU V-mod has gone wrong, my mobo (DFI NF4 UT SLI-D) has been acting weird. I first thought it's the forceware drivers so I tried different ones. I even tried a fresh installation of Windows on a different hardware. But it's still happening.

I've sticking in 7900 GTX, and 6200 TC, but in both cases I get no BOOT to windows, coolbits unable to detect the max OC then reboot, 3D apps fail to boot, etc. Basically all the cards behave similar to the bad V-mod'ed 7900 GT on this board. They all work fine on other boards.

It was my first V-mod attempt so I have no idea how it affects the motherboard. I've tried one thing, though - Clearing CMOS doesn't work well. All cards are able to POST, but I'm having many problems in Windows.

Any ideas?

I fried one of my 7800gts when I volt modded it and pushed the memory way way too far, but I don't have the issues you are having. I mean I caught the card on fire no joke and my motherboard still works fine. It's pretty much the same motherboard as yours too( mine is the DFI NF4 ut SLI-DR) What powersupply do you have and have you checked to see what happens if you put it in the other pci-e slot?

Holy Cow. Did you actually see a flame? Off of a 7800 GT?

Well.. I didn't see a fire on my card. (PHEW..) Maybe I should re-flash the motherboard's BIOS. Thanks for your reply, redbox. At least it gave me a hope.

My PSU is the new OCZ GameXtreme 700W. Same/similar symptom in both PCI-E X16 slots. I actually went to BB today and got a 6200 PCI, and even that behaves similarly. To somewhat less degree.
