Can a Gigabyte X58 UD-5 take 6990 Xfire

Want to upgrade and probably going to go for 2 x 6990's but today I saw a 6990 in an X58 mobo and just one seemed to fill two and a half rather than two slots. Is it physically possible to squeeze to 6990's into my 2 Pcie x 16 slots or will I have to go for the x 8 slot and lose performance. I figure one 6990 will be around the same performance as my current setup so 2 should be really noticeable improvement.

Even if it runs X8 mode you won't loose any performance. Lanes are not the killer for Pci-e. Efficiency and latency are

1920/1200 but considering 2 more for eyefinity and with Arma 2 things will slow down very quickly.

Ah OK. Definately not worth it for 1 monitor at that rez. Great game btw
