fan is dying and i don't want to replace it.
can i just unplug the fan header and let it run w/out killing it?

I dont think it can, I accidently unplugged the fan on my Geforce 2 Pro - wasnt stable whilst in games. Maybe with a bigger surface area heatsink.

I would doubt it even though they are older tech those things ran pretty hot esspecially with out the fan on the stock sink.

hmphh.. im running my ti4200 without a fan right now..for about the past 1 yr...still no problem 😀

I ran one without a fan for some time. It was perfectly stable. Then again, I use AS epoxy to attach a beefy heatsink. 😀 It took up an additional PCI slot.

That thing is pretty damn meaty.

And cheap too! I think I got it from All Electronics for $1 or $2 tops.

I've had several GeForce2 MX video cards. None of them had active cooling. All of them laster years. One is still used in a file serving box. They were used for games and such in their heyday.

The small 40mm fan died on my Ti4200 as well, so I have a silent YS-Tech 80mm fan blowing directly on it....does the job for me too, and its overclocked to 315/590 🙂
