Can a generic Intel motherboard from a PII 266 handle a 120GB hard drive?

Hi there,

I am setting up a fileserver and I have an old PII 266Mhz system here that is running Win2k Server with 96MB of RAM. The largest hard drive I've had in it is an 8GB and it has a generic Intel motherboard in it. My question is, can I put a Maxtor 120GB hard drive in it and will it work correctly? This would be using NTFS...

If not, what would the maximum hard drive size be for this board?

Thanks! Happy Holidays!

Its an LX chipset mobo. Go to Intels site and download the latest BIOS for it and give it a whirl. If it doesn't work, you can get a Promise IDE controller for it.

So it won't work without updating the BIOS or getting a controller card? I guess I should get an ATA100 controller card for it... that would be best to increase the speed anyway.
