Can a CRT Rear Projection TV have dead pixels?

I have a 52" widescreen HD TV that I bought about 3 years and I just noticed there is a small black spot on part of the screen. If I switch between HD and regular resolutions on it the spot is still there. I didn't think that CRT rear projection TVs could get dead pixels? Is there maybe something that fell on the lens?

I had a discolored spot in the corner of my 53" CRT HDTV a few months back. I took the back panel out, and discovered a daddy long leg just inside the screen.

I have sceen spiders and stuff crawling on the lens because their silhouette projects on the screen before. That's annoying.

Nope, can't be a dead pixel. Its a spot on one of the projectors...open it up, and clean it off.

Well, its not hermetically sealed. If they want in, they'll get in. Its a good idea to dust the projectors off every now and then anyway.

Yes, they can have dead "pixels" if some of the phosphor has either burned out become dislodged, or there was a problem in it's manufacture. But these are extremely rare. Check for something in the projection path first, such as dust.

I took the TV apart and found that the inside of the screen had a small spec of crap on it. I got it off, then I got the cobwebs out of the inside of the TV and dusted off everything inside. It's now back to working normal again!
