Can a CPU fail prime due to a memory limitation?

If you suspect a memory problem I would run memtest. Depends some on what prime torture test you are running, as small FFT and Large FTT use almost no memory, but the blend test uses a good amount of mem. But yes, if you are running with unstable memory it can cause prime95 to fail.

ion as you increase the OC on the A64 chips you stress the memory controller and stablity will suffer

My 170 will 2600 1:1 260 ram....but 2700 max ram speed 225

bad ram..ie that which has memtest errors would of course affect stablity and lead to failures in prime 95, data corruption, BSOD etc

I had a 165 and it could only do 2.5 ghz, the same as this 170 im using now. Ive still got the 165 back home, its not being used and didnt sell. Should i try again with a lower divider? Ive lowered the divider to 266 on this 170. But i had it at 333 when i had the 165, i didnt realise that the memory could actually be holding me back at 333.

Its 2x512mb of crucial and samsung memory.

depends on whether you want t otake the time to test everything out....
