Can a Corsair HX 520W PSU handle G92 GTS SLI?

Should, but that's definitely getting close to pushing it.

That's about 300W guaranteed in pure video card power alone when you're running a game. If you've got an overclocked Quad and some hard drives...I'd play it safe and get the 620W version.

Definately pushing it. Remember pushing your PSU too hard can fry it, I'd agree with Avalon and go for the 620W one.

Actually, I did ask this question because I'm wondering about the GX2 which is two G92 GTS' in SLI.... It might be more power efficient due to being ONE card however. Anyway, let's use G92 GTS SLI as a placeholder for now.

Lets say I have 3 GBs of RAM, one 400GB HDD, a Gigabyte GA P35 DS3l and a E2200 OCed to 3.3 GHz, would it work out? I'm definitely willing to go with the 620W one, I'm just wondering if 520W is enough.

I have the Corsair 620HX and it powers the below system just fine. You can rest assured nah.

EDIT Whoops! You're using SLI. Yeah, as palladium says: go for the 620. The newegg reviews say its wattage rating is the most accurate and its stability AND quietness is unparalleled. I assume the 520 is a lesser beast of the same qualities, but SLI prob won't hold up especially with the AMPs you want to run.

Ok, what about a VX 550 watt? It has an power efficency of 85%, so that's 550 / 100 = 5,5 x 85 = 465 watt, would that be enough?

Heh, I think you're on the wrong track about efficiency. The corsair 550vx can put out 550w on all of it's rails together, the 3.3/5 and 12v rail. If you were to push it to it's maximum, it will draw 550/0.8 = 687.5w from the wall, 20%, or 137.5w will be wasted into heat or lost due to some other reason, and 80% will be 'given' to whatever component needs it, 550w. Personaly, for sli-ed 8800gt's, I'd want a qaulity 600w unit, although a 520hx will probably power 2 of them. They often don't pull more then 120w, and won't get close to 150w.

Efficiency numbers don't work like that. 85% efficiency of a 550w PSU means it is drawing about 550/0.85 = 647w at the wall outlet to provide that 550w of power. However, I wouldn't push a PSU to it's absolute limit...so if you need a 500w PSU for your system...buy at least a 600w one.

EDIT: Lol, MarcVenice beat me to it.

But if a HX 520 with 520 watt is barely enough for SLI, wouldn't the VX with it's 550 watt be enough? I mean, it's 30 more watts...

Just some friendly advice - do NOT trust any newegg customer reviews. Everybody claims to be an expert there, and most people know just enough terminology to be dangerous. So don't even read them. Spend the extra time googling for professional reviews of products you're considering. That's about the only way to be sure about what you're getting. ESPECIALLY when it comes to a critical (and non-intuitive) component like a power supply.

It only has 18A on each rail. I think it would be cutting it rather thin. I wouldn't do it, because a PSU failure can truly be catastropic.

Didn't think about it at the time because they were bashing other PSUs with a lesser $/W. I assume less is more, and since a mad customer would have translated into a bad review at the place of purchase, the reviewers must not have been talking out of their ****.

But reading a professional review is the right way to go; newegg, however, had so many reviews praising its high quality that I didn't need to in this instance.

Then you'd just have a PSU that was barely more than barely enough. Still doesn't sound too good to me. The HX620 should be your best bet, or another quality 600W of your choosing.

650W, and I always hear good stuff about their PSUs...

If you're gonna spend that much you might as well get the HX620. It is one of the most highly rated PSUs of that power class. Just shop around and I'm sure you'll find a good deal...no need to only look at NewEgg right?

I believe it actually uses a single 12V rail, that only has different "rails" coming off it.

I have had 2 Antec TruPower PSU's fail on me. I would strongly suggest against that model. But here is a good one at the same price and has better performance: PC P&C 610W Silencer. Since NewEgg is sold out, try here: Other PC P&C 610W Silencer link. It is $138.00 with free two day shipping. (At least I think it is free, they always had free two day shipping before, but I haven't bought from them in over a year)

Why spend 250 extra of whatever currency to get a seasonic S12 over a Corsair tx650 ?
