Like can a city police man (of the same city and stuff) pull over another cop for speeding?

I dunno. Maybe they'd just get the car # and call it in or something?

They probably have immunity if they're in a cop car. Either that or no cop would EVER pull over another cop :)

why not? it is the duty of the police officer to apprehend anyone who is breaking the law.

of course i'll bet you'll never ever see this happen.

They "could," but I bet the cop who is doing the pulling over would get a beat down. I doubt it will ever happen.

Be interesting if they did... isn't there some unwritten code where they always got each others back.

Calling one of your own in for speeding would probably get you ostracized

Christ, they pull over an off-duty cop and let them go as soon as they see the badge. Seriously doubt you will ever see a cruiser pulled over by another one.

It *could* happen.

On that same note, a plane *could* fall out of the sky and hit my house.

Even if its in a different county/state, they get off the hook a lot easier.

Here in Dallas/Ft Worth a Cop was in another city and was pulled over for speeding, the speeding cop thought that he would be let go, but was written a ticket, he then called his watch commander and he came out, so the officer that pulled him over called his watch commander and they had a big contigent of about 8 cop cars out there, the cops from the city that pulled the other cop over finally got the guy to accept the ticket, and stop being a bitch about it.

They obviously won't pull over another cop car, but if a cop is off duty and gets pulled over he just flashes his ID or his badge and the officer that pulled him over will say, "Thank you sir have a nice day". The same thing for firefighters, I have a buddy with the firefighter plates and his badge next to his driver's license. When he gets pulled over (as long as he isn't doing like 60 over the limit or something stupid) the see his badge and tell him to be careful and have a great day. It is called professional courtesy, sort of like fringe benefits at your job I suppose.

They WILL on occasion write eachother tickets.

One incident my uncle told me about was when a van pulling a boat was being pulled over for speeding, someone in the back of the van just placed his badge on the rear window (w/o even slowing down) in public view. That was BAD form, and the guy got the ticket for being such a moron.

My uncle once would've gotten a ticket for doing a U turn in a buisness district (at 2AM), except the officer was after a particular female officer that was in the passenger seat.

Edit:
Though I've never heard of a black and white pulling over a black and white (unless it was stolen, then there's about half a dozen pulling over one)

I've heard that CHP(California Highway Patrol) do pull over and ticket off duty cops and deputys, but not their own.

I worked with someone who's son is a police officer in a small town. He told her that all the cops in the small towns in the area have a deal worked out that if she gets pulled over, all she has to do is mention that her son is a cop and show some sort of ID (I forget what), and she gets away without a ticket.

She claims she's never tested it.

Around here (columbus, ohio) cops and their families have FOP stickers on their civilian cars. I think FOP is Fraternal Order of Police, or in other words, professional courtesy. meaning they generally don't pull them over. I went to school with the sheriffs granddaughter, lets just say SHE never got a ticket :|

Usually they don't get a ticket or there immediate family. About 4-5 years ago in Los Angeles lap officer pulled over a sheriff wife and gave her a speeding ticket. He didn't believe here that she was married to a LAPD officer. LAPD officer got pissed and after he got on shift went and waited till sheriff officer got off duty and pulled him over and gave him a speeding ticket. Basically a war started between these two departments and went back and forth for about a month between many different officers. It came to the point that black and whites were almost being pulled over for speeding. At the end both chefs had to get involved to get this to be stopped. So in la if you are a wife of an officer you just give the officer that pulled you over a husband business card and they let you go.
