Can a broken laptop be fixed?

Hello. I have a Compaq laptop that a family member threw on the floor. It won't boot, and the screen is shattered. Is there a way to fix this, or am I just out a few grand? It's still under warranty, but I don't think this type of thing is covered. Thanks.

You can get replacement parts but they're expensive from the factory, probably not worth replacing infact. I'd keep an eye on ebay for other damaged ones and try to piece together a functional one.

I would try the warranty. See what you can get out of that. I now dell has one where you can break it and your still covered.

If it is a Presario laptop, then call Compaq to ask for a repair quote for the LCD and whatever else "looks" damaged. If it is an Armada or EVO series, then call Compaq, but also find out who services them locally for you and call them (don't bother calling the mass merchants as they probably send it to Compaq). Your profile says you are in Germany. I am not sure what you luck in finding a local service center will be.
