Can a birth control shot skew the results of a pregnancy test?

Ok, my gf just had a miscarriage in January. She took the birth control shot which is good for 3 months, and the doctor said that if she gets pregnant before around 3 months she stands a huge risk of losing it. The plan was to try again in a few months after she has healed up, but signs are starting to point towards pregnancy. It could just be hormones from the previous one or the shot playing tricks, but she picked up a pregnancy test from wal-mart and is going to take it this evening.

Now, does anyone know if the shot will mess up the test and give a false reading?

Yes I want a baby. She is taking birth control for the time being so she can heal after her miscarriage (she was 14 weeks 2 days).

First of all, I'm not doctor but it doesn't seem wise to me to take some sort of birth control for 3 months. I don't think it'd be that effective and it might mess with your chances of getting pregnant after the 3 months. As far as the shot messing up the test, i don't know. I'm not sure why i'm posting but I typed this much so I might as well hit enter and not waste my time.

Oh wow... poor thing. I know how she feels losing a baby like that...
yes, it could skew the test, but have her take a few tests to be sure.
I hope it comes out a true positive for both of you!

The shot is over 99% effective, but yes there can be side effects where it can delay you becoming fertile again for a couple months.

I am sure her dr. put her on it so she would not have the possiblity to concieve while her body was healing from the miscarraige. What i don't understand is why the shot? why not the pill? anyways, i am sure her dr. knows what they are doing so.... good luck OP

No, it shouldn't. But you should definitely follow up with a visit to the doctor, whatever the results turn out to be.

pardon me for saying this, but you are a moron. :|
Knowing her condition, you should have used some protection rather than asking her to be on pills.

She's not on a pill, it was her decision entirely (when she got back she told me she took the shot), and it doesn't affect her "condition". Her condition is she just had a miscarriage and her uterus is swollen and needs time to recover so back off.

It may be the high dose of hormones that are giving her pregnant-like symptoms. This is something a doctor should be asked/

Um - you are the moron. The doctor put her on the shot, not maximus. It prevents her from having her period and that is what helps her heal.
