can a bad PSU effect monitor picture? (complaints about viewsonic a90f+?)

I had my KDS go bad on me and I had a service plan on it so the best I could do without shelling out a lot more money was this Viewsonic. I get it home and it looks a lot nicer than the washed out KDS I'd been looking at. But then I started to notice serious flicker problems. They were slight at first, but now I'm sure they are there. I run @ 1280x1024 and the best this thing can do at that res is 75hz. That may be the problem. Right now I am unzipping a 1gig zip file and the screen is flickering as the little folder scrolls across the screen...even when it is minimized. The file just stopped and the flicker is less noticeble but still there. I know I posted a similar question a few days back, but I wanted to get more direct feedback now that I know that this problem isn't just my eyes. Is 75Hz just not enough at 1280x1024? Is it worth considering just going back to a 17" w/ higher refresh rates?
thanks,

You probably want a refresh rate of at least 85Hz, so try running at 1024x768. The A90f+ will run 105Hz refresh rate at that resolution. See if that helps. I can, like a lot of people, see a slight flicker at even a 75Hz refresh rate. Lower refresh rates than 85Hz can be hard on your eyes.

1024x768 is WAY too low. Does anyone even run that low anymore? I am hoping that switching out the monitor will help. Also, this isnt a slight flicker. It is really terrible flicker.

A constant flicker would be the monitor.

A flicker from a moving object would probably be the video card.

Although a higher refresh rate is obviously better, I don't believe it has anything to do with your problem.

Well my PSU totally died today. Cooked and melted itself to my motherboard. So I am assuming that was the problem with the monitor. Any thoughts?

A new mobo and PSU are on the way from newegg. The monitor's 14 day return policy is up thursday so I am gonna hook it up to another computer for then and see if that was the problem. But the monitor looked a lot worse right before my PSU crapped.

That monitor can go up to 80Hz refresh rate while in spec. Windows doesn't allow that particular rate without an outside program, Winblows has just odd number refresh rates such as 75 and 85 as you already know, but the A90F+ can go up to 80Hz in spec, and I have had mine at 87 for a short time before I got scared and put it back in spec. I use RivaTuner on mine, and it makes a big difference between 75Hz and 80Hz. Try it!!
