Can a 900MHz celeron work on a 66MHz Slot1 mobo w/Socket 370?

Yes, what would be happening however is ur Celeron 900mhz running at normally 9x100mhz FSB will now be running at 9x66mhz FSB (so 600mhz essentially). SO it will work, just possibly n ot at 100mhz. Who knows, maybe ur slot 1 mobo can oc to 100mhz?

Some socket 370 mobos top out a 533 mhz and can only use ppga chips, not fcpga chips. They may burn out an fcpga chip. You had better look closely at the documentation for your board.

thanks for the information, folks.

Actually, I only have a slot1 motherboard with a socket 370 adapter (not a socket 370 mobo). Well, I guess I won't be upgrading my machine. Currently, it's a 533MHz Celeron, 224MB, V3 3000 video card. Yeah, it's getting long in the tooth. I'm just going to use it until it gives up on me or I suddenly have some extra cash to get a new one 😀 It's still working great for me, but of course....I'm not exactly playing the latest games.

cheers,
DWF

DWF, a slot 1 can use any celeron as long as you have the right adapter card. Do an ebay search for slot 1 to socket 370 adapters that can use fcpga chips. Of course, your bus speed may be limited to 66 mhz, but you won't burn out your chip.

Well, I've decided that I won't be putting anymore money into this machine. I bought it in 1997 originally as a Dell PII233 and have upgraded it's components a few times. I remember that I paid $2200 for it. (Geez....feels like a rip off now) With the cheap prices of PC's these days, I'll just get a brand new one 😀

Not really. The slot 1 board must support the Vcore of the Coppermine CPU. The Slocket does not do this. It only signals the mobo as to which voltage to supply.

DWF, you call it a 66 MHz mobo. Is it an LX chipset? Most wont support CuMine CPU's. If it did, the fastest you could get would be a C733 or C766. Not worth the bother. Upgrade to a better system.

My system being a PII233........yeah, definitely an LX mobo. (I'm sure you would've known this already; it's just that your post was 2 minutes after my previous one 😀 )

But yeah....definitely getting a new system within the next 6 months. I really have no need for anything really fast and modern these days as I don't have time for games (yet). The 533MHz is doing the job for now.

Thanks for the comments though.

Slot1 motherboard that old may not be able to provide voltage low enough for Cuppermine.

Even with a slocket with voltage adjustment, if the motherboard's voltage generator (I forgot the right term) cannot give voltage lower than, say, 1.75V or so, it will fly the chip.
