Can a 1.2 GHz Athlon run with my motherboard and PSU?

I have an older MSI K7T Pro motherboard, and an American Media Systems 300W PSU. On AMD's site, the MB is listed as being able to handle 1.1 GHz, and the PSU is listed at 1.0 GHz. I'm running 800 MHz now, but I would like to get a cheap upgrade on my system. Will a 1.2 GHz chip run well, or should I select a slower model? I only have one 7200 HD, and 2 CD drives on the system, so the load shouldn't be too high. Any experience anyone has with this would be helpful.

800 to 1.2 Ghz wont do jack. How much ram you got? under wink2k upgrade to 512 if you like to multitask.

A IBm 40 GB 60GXP would be a nice upgrade for overall system preformance. You didnt mention Video preformance, but a geforce2/kyro2/radeon would be a nice graphics upgrade.

I have 384 mb of RAM. Video performance isn't really a big issue. I have a GeForce DDR, which is fine because I don't really game that much. Mostly I just run a lot of apps at once, and I figured things like Flask would run better with a new CPU. My HDD is a Maxtor Diamond Max 40...that seems to be quick enough.

Flask will definately see an improvement.:)

And yes i am pretty sure your board & power supply will be up to the task.
