Can 4-pin case fans go into sleep mode?

not via software. the only thing going through the 4-pin wires is electricity. by that i mean no information interaction with mobo/ps. you could do a mod and hook up the fan(s) to a switch and turn them off manually.

And if I had 3 wire case fans? I have one and perhaps I can get adapters for the others.
