Can 168-pin DIMM mix with 72-pin SIMM on the same board?

Hi, beginner here. I got an old Pentium MMX 200 PC. My motherboard (MSI-5184) got two 168-pin DIMM slots and two 72-pin SIMM slots. I currently have 2x32MB 72-pin RAMs on it and I plan to add somemore. Can I add one or two PC100 SDRAM on it. Is it compatible with my current RAMs?

Thanks and hope to hear from you.

Ive seen it before! In our comp repair class, we have about 40 pentium 200 mmx systems, and they have 1 16mb dimm and a couple 8mb simms, or 1 32mb dimm, depends on the board though, ours i think are by IBM, or intel?

chiwawa, is it true?
I heard from someone that it's impossible, but someone said not sure...

@_@

confusing here...

oh ya, one more thing...
is DIMM compatible with Pentium MMX chipset?

DIMMs can be used on VX chipsets and TX chipsets if you are talking about the ones from Intel. SDRAM was supported by these 2 chipsets.

While it can sometimes be done, you should not mix DIMMs and SIMMs, particularly when they are of different memory type, ie EDO SIMMs and SDRAM DIMMs. Back in those early times, EDO RAM also sometimes came as DIMMs. Late Pentium systems from IBM generally came with EDO DIMMs, and sometimes with SDRAM DIMMs.

Try it out, depends on ur mobo and chipset, but i know for sure that it works, also, ive taken one of those dimms and put it on a 440bx board and it worked fine, only about 16mb though

Yes, it's possible. I've done this myself. I had 64MB PC66 SDRAM, and I had some 8 and 16MB 72-pin modules. I stuck them all in, and I had 104MB total, instead of just 64. I think that's how it was... but I know I was using SDRAM and other kinds at the same time, and the SDRAM was 168 pins while the others were 72.
