Can 100 Go Into 66?

The new IBM hard drive I have is an Ultra ATA 100 interface. The controller card I'll be plugging into is a Promise Technology Ultra 66. Is this a problem, or will I just be slowing down the hard drive? If I plug directly into the IDE slot on the motherboard, how can it be determined if the mobo is rated at 66 or 100?

I agree with IamDavid! there will be very little real world difference between ata66 & ata100 speed!

Yes it can :)
THe drive will not be slowed down as i can't even saturate the 66mb/s of ata66.
As for your mobo it depends on what southbridge it has and or what onbaord controllers. Tell us what mobo you have and we'll tell you what controller you have;)

Yes, all standards are backwards compatible. Also, there is almost no performance difference between ata/100 and 66.

your drive might just challenge udma33. the benefit of udma100 is in bandwidth for multiple drives, e.g. in RAID systems.
