Aaah, frikkin shiat.

I've spent a good 3 hours trying to adjust a DuraAce front derailleur. Why The Fvck do I have to pay premium $$$ for a crude and primitive POS like this.
Damn, design a front derailleur that actually can be set up properly without 4 hands. Man I hate this POS equipment.
Everything else is a piece of cake to adjust.
Brakes : good
Rear dreailleur : easy
Front POS : Imfvckingpossible
This rant goes for MTB stuff too.

Finally finished building the bike! Sweet ride!

No it looks easy in the manual.
Adjust derailleur to be as close as possible (1mm) from big chain ring. Yeah, right! With everything set up according to the manual the inner part is rubbing on the center ring (yes, I have a triple) so Ihave to move it up, and then the shifting $ucks.

You'll never be chain-rub free on a triple. Just let it rub on the center ring with the last two small cogs, you don't want to be in those extreme gears anyways.

What is hitting the middle ring? Your inner plate of the der. should not be touching any of the rings. The 1mm height adjustment you spoke of is to clear the outer ring/outer plate so you can clear teh outer ring and shift to the outer ring. It is not the set screw adjustment. The inner plate of the der. shouldn't touch anything on the crank.

PM me w/details of what you've done and I'll try to help..........mech.for over 8 years in our shop. Ft. ders. always used to give me problems at first, but are truly simple.

Sounds like a chainline problem - if it is, you may NEVER get the front der properly adjusted without adjusting or replacing your bottom bracket. Your middle chainring needs to be parallel to your centermost cog (in your case, the fifth one). I honestly don't think I have ever spent more than 5-10 minutes installing and adjusting a front derailleur, and I have built up at least ten different bikes with Campy, Shimano, and Suntour - this is not something that should be difficult.
