Camping In BF 1942

I was in the real Army. I planned offensive and defensive battle operations. I just started playing BF 1942 and today a player on my team was whining because a player on the other team was guarding the air strip or in his words, camping. It's one of the maps where you are supposed to try to take every base, assult I think it called. In real life bases are guarded. That is a defensive operation. Is there some unwritten rule that it isn't allowed in BF 1942? It seems perfectly legitimate to me.
