I can't really afford to double up on everything and I've been camping when it's cold enough to make white gas much more of a pain to work with than propane.
I think propane is supposed to work better in the cold, but that hasn't been my experience. It might be a difference in storage conditions and/or crappy gear, though.Really i found the opposite to be true, but the quality of the propane gear i was using was much lower than the white gas gear i bought.
Propane canisters are easier to find than white gas, but don't backpack as well due to their size and inability to be refilled.
I have a mix of both, an MSR stove and Lantern that use white gas and a dual burner stove that uses propane canisters.
Propane doesnt work worth a crap much below zero so i prefer white gas.
Depends on the type of camping ...
preppers only use white gas, there won't be any more propane after the Apocalypse
