Propane canisters are easier to find than white gas, but don't backpack as well due to their size and inability to be refilled.
I have a mix of both, an MSR stove and Lantern that use white gas and a dual burner stove that uses propane canisters.

I prefer white gas when I can, but most of my gear is propane. I can't really afford to double up on everything and I've been camping when it's cold enough to make white gas much more of a pain to work with than propane.

Doesn't stop me from borrowing the folks white gas stuff during the summer, though. A few big cans are much nicer to deal with than a bunch of cylinders.

Really i found the opposite to be true, but the quality of the propane gear i was using was much lower than the white gas gear i bought.

I think propane is supposed to work better in the cold, but that hasn't been my experience. It might be a difference in storage conditions and/or crappy gear, though.

He didn't say backpacking. I have propane for camping, and a Esbit stove for backpacking. A campfire or cold food works most of the time for backpacking.

For car camping...coleman propane stove/mini grill
For backpacking i use a jetboil (isobutane/propane mix)

Found altitude effects the jetboil more so than the cold. I've taken it up climbing and around 7k is where it seems to start not being as effective. Someone usually has a white gas stove and they work better it seems like up higher.

I like gasoline stoves since they don't use special fuel. For lanterns, I like kerosene.

Just a regular drive to the camp site and pitch the tent? We normally just make a campfire and use that for cooking needs. Flashlights for inside the tent.

Depends on the camping

Car: Propane stove and lantern, LED battery lantern.

Backpacking: MSR white gas stove, LED headlamp

It's probably close to 50% for me between propane & wood. It's more common for us to cook dinner over a wood fire, but some types of food are too hard to control over a wood fire (like deep frying fish.) It's not worth the bother to start a campfire just for cooking lunch, so some food is cooked over propane.

Depends on the type of camping ...

This. If you're car camping in an area with easy access to wood, a combination of wood and a propane stove will do anything you want.

For backpacking, I love whisperlites. They're a bit tricky to get used you (you'll probably singe the hair on your hands a couple times at first), but once you get the hang of it, they're the best.

White gas, just because that's the equipment I have (all 20-30 years old and going strong).

preppers only use white gas, there won't be any more propane after the Apocalypse

Real preppers use wood. The white gas supplies won't last much longer than the propane supplies after the apocalypse.
