Howdy,

well it's time again where i want something new but don't need it right away.

my current phone contract is up in about 6+ months and i was wondering if i should invest in a cell phone with a camera or if i should go out and sendd the money and get a digital camera.

does anyone know that resolution new cell camera phones are?

also are there any models/ makers that are better then others.

as always your feed back is appericated

I haven't seen a cellphone yet with a resolution better than 1MP (~1024x768), and even that's only on the newest models. Cameras go up to about 5-6MP now for 'consumer' models, and 14(!) for 'professional' ones. There's a *slight* quality difference there, plus you don't have a zoom, viewfinder, flash, lighting controls, etc...

Basically, if you want to take photos for anything more serious than posting them to a blog or emailing them to your friends, you want a real digital camera.

Cellphone cameras are horrendous compared to even digital cameras that are half a decade old. If you're concerned at all about photo quality, get a digital camera to take pictures. It's tough to buy a phone nowadays that doesn't come with a camera though. They're almost as ubiquitous as color screens and polyphonic ringtones.

While some cell phone cameras have decent resolution for the purposes of viewing on the phone lcd, they come no where close to the better resolution of even a poor digital camera. In addition, you have greater problems with low light and picture stability.

If decent pictures are your goal along with quality output and greater flexibility in storing your pictures, you need a decent digital camera, not a cell phone.

They aren't good, plain and simple. Even those newer 1mp phone cameras apparently use cmos sensors so you get that washed out look, comparable to a digital camera that cost $15 on ebay.

i can vouch that they suck terribly so what if a phone has a mega pixel ccd......they use crap lenses that have crap focal length

i have a camera on my fone its got a flash hich isnt actually a flash but a set of ultra brite LEDS...they do jack sh!t in the dark, the screen jus whites out. the quality is blurry and grainy.

The camera pics on my V600 is crap, and i believe it's one of the better camera phones out there. But it's still nice to have, because it's fun taking candid shots (especially of coworkers doing fvcked up things), and even once in awhile i actually use it productively (i was at the store the other day buying a toaster oven, but wasn't sure which we wanted. So took a few shots of various models, and sent them to my gf to decide... another time we wanted pick-up sushi at work, but the sushi place didn't have any take out menus. So i went there, took shots of the menu, then got back to work and we looked at the pics through there).
