camera people, what do you use to clean your lenses with?

I got some kinda spots on my S3IS lens somehow. I have a clean microfiber towel, but want to know what kinda liquid to use? Should i go out get some kinda lens cleaning solution? or can I cook up something with household items that will be safe to use on the lens? I dont want anything rubbing off the coating on the lens
 
It depends on the amount and type of dirt or smudges, but I typically use a lens pen to remove the larger bits followed by a microfiber clothe with some lens cleaning liquid.
 
I bought something at Ritz. It is some paper sheets and a bottle of distilled water. Works pretty well.
