Many years ago my uncle had a camera (240i BNC to coax type F) put at the crest of his yard to watch the busy road. There was also a 12" CRT monitor, which was installed in a weather tight enclosure at the end of the driveway, which was connected to the camera through buried PVC conduit.
I say was, because the tube finally burned out. I thought about trying to replace the tube itself, and also considered something like this.
My question is whether it is a better idea in the long run to reccomend replacing the camera and display together, and pulling Cat5 into the conduit to use a more modern setup, or continue going the route of replacing the CRT and hoping the camera keeps working?
DVR is not needed, and resolution is not as important as low motion blur and high focus. The weather tight box can be made to be theft deterrent and some sort of automatic shutoff would be nice (previous system stayed on 24/7 and glowed at night). Wireless is also not preferred because of camera power requirements, and it is probably only 175-200 feet of conduit from camera pole to monitor box.
Thanks in advance, it seems most kits have DVR built in.
