so i'm now thinking of lugging around my d70, my lens kits, and my 700m on trips (or at least, when i'm not on a trip, i still will want to use the camera compartments for my equipment).

i'm looking into a backpack for such a purpose since i'm a petite woman and don't want to walk around with a shoulder bag that will make my spine curvy :p

anyone have any recommendations for good ones -- preferably in the affordable range?

ebay has this one and i'm looking at it, but i'm not sure since this appears to be a no-name bag. i've seen the lowepro bag, the tarmac laptop+SLR camera bags, crumpler brian's hot tub bags which also look nice, but are rather pricy. i'm possibly willing to splurge if it's good, but i'd rather not if there are other options available that are just as good.

Crumpler Whickey and Cox

build quality is awesome, compartments for the camera and lenses are all configurable, entire camera section comes out as does the laptop section
freeing up the whole bag for other uses. There's a smaller version called the Keystone and a larger version called the Karachi Outpost. For a size reference
download their pdf catalog from the .nl site and look for the nudex.

You probably dont want the Brian's HotTub, if you're petite as you say it would dwarf you. The Schrinkle or puppet are the ones you want.
Those are the older models, the ones that came out a week ago to replace them are in my link above

Here's a good bag resource: http://www.asvd07.dsl.pipex.com/d70bags.htm

Another backpack option is the formal lounge, farmers double series, they have
an upper compartment for your laptop and stuff and a lowercamera compartment
with padding and inserts for your gear. The new versions are called the Customary Barge
and Sinking Barge.

I got my Whickey and Cox on ebay from photococan who has a store and sells a lot of Crumpler gear. Very
reliable and I would definitely recommend. Also you can do the submit best offer and probably get a good price.

thanks, will check out those links. i'm sort of hoping it will carry everything but not bend my back over... i do have lots of lenses + laptop to carry but i am small, so i'll look into those.

and thanks for the pics!

i guess i have to pay in the $200 range for a good camera bag?

got the keystone (formerly puppet) bag. it can fit up to a 12" laptop, which is all i need since the 700m is 12". (my larger laptops are like desktops to me ;))

anyhow, looks good, and they honored a best price offer of nearly $40 cheaper! i'm happy :)

thanks for the recommendations, bullsonparade, and thanks again for those great pictures of your bag. :)
