camera controlled from computer

I'm looking for a 5MP or more camera which can be controlled by TWAIN/WIA in OmniPage. What I want to do is "scan" into OmniPage for OCR processing using a camera which should be faster and less damaging to books than a scanner.
Can this be done? The cameras I've seen are mass storage and webcams seem to max out at 2MP (w/o interpolation)

How about a camera on a mount with remote shutter release? You could also get a camera with wifi storage if you want it to directly save to your computer. But $500 should be way more than enough for this task. Any P&S should be sufficient for this job.

may want to look into using PTP extensions with CHDK on a canon camera
