camera broken, cost estimate to fix

so, I bought an A40 used it for a good year and a half, then this afteroon it droped, hit the ground and the flash no longer works, everything else works., just the flash is broken, any ideas on how much it would cost to fix? thnks

IMHO, it is not worth it to fix a camera, because the last time I checked (about 10 year ago) labor cost was $65~$100 per hour depending on the camera.

Flash tubes don't have filaments.

I was just checking that out. Well, maybe the seal broke in the bulb?

Flash tubes generally are xenon filled quartz tube.

It is unclear of what is broken, and it would be easy to refasten the wire if there is only a lose/broken lead, or replace a broken/capacitor/inductor/diode/transistor. However it would be hard to find the replacement quartz tube/flash lens housing, because it is not built to be replace.

You can try disconnecting the wire to the on camera flash & with some resistor modification/replacement you should be able to get the digital camera to work with an offcamera/slave flash unit.

I didn't have any luck finding replacements online, so you're probably right. If you can't find an obvious problem, like a broken run in a PCB or loose solder joint, then screw it, but's it's worth opening it up to find out.

I did open it up, all sodering points look good, oh well
