Camcorders...

Geekling

What are some decent ones out there? I would probably spend around $500 for it.

I went to sony.com just to see whats out there and I noticed they have...

High Definition Video ( I won't be getting this one due to the price lol)

DVD

Mini DV

Seems like most of you agree on MiniDV...

But which ones are the best? Sony? Panasonic? JVC?

Any suggestions on which one to get?

Mini DV

We've had a Canon ZR-40MC (or something like that) for about 3 years and it's really good

Just hook up the firewire cable and you can transfer files to the computer

Cost about $600 back then ...

I have a sony dcr-trv103. Its an older one so you might find great prices on them. Its digital, hooks to the pc for transfer/editing. Night vision. But the best is the super sharp picture. It uses Hi8 tapes. There are much smaller cams out there, that take mini small tapes, but you also seem to lose a lot of picture quality. My sister has a super small mini sony cam that takes mini tapes. Hers was much more expensive than mine, but her picture quality doesnt come close to my trv103 quality. Sometimes, size IS better! I love this cam and know a few others with the same cam, which they also love. Was $700 new a few years ago. Much less now, if you find them. (just my input)

Damn Dell had 20% off, $65 off and 10% off PDA coupons.

Elura 90 for $423 with free shipping and no sales tax to most states, wow.

🙁

Do you have AIM? I am very knowledgeable in this field and can help you out much easier over that.

By the way, Amol is wrong. I have used the ZR, and it's probably the worst fvcking MiniDV cam I've ever had to use.

well, we were pretty limited on options since we need the camcorder that day (we were flying out the next day and the camcorder we had wasn't working for some odd reason)

and it's pretty okay, it's not like i'm using it for pro usage

I'm not sure of the model you're using, I forgot to look. I just know the ones I've seen were horrible. Then again I think they were only about $350-400 last year, so I doubt they're the same one.

Edit: All that comes up are replacement batteries, but judging by the specs it looks like your model is better than the ones I've used. It actually looks like a pretty decent camera.
