Camcorder to VCD (SVCD), What is the best setup?

What is the best setup to convert video captured in a camcorder to VCD or SVCD format?

My options are:
Setup 1.
--------
Step 1: Use ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder card to capture video and store in AVI.
Step 2: Convert them to mpeg files.
Step 3: Create VCD files from mpeg files using Nero and burn them in a CDR.

Setup 2.
--------
Step 1: Use Pinnacle Systems' Studio DV (firewire) and capture the pictures and store in MPEG fiels.
Step 2: Create VCD files from mpeg files using Nero and burn them in a CDR

Please share your experience.

Thanks

I like Firewire for DV. Most of the good, new camcorders use Firewire. But the Radeon sounds like a winner (if it really does all they claim)

I use Panasonic MPEG encoder to convert AVI to MPEG-1.

Has to be VCD spec in order to burn. I think there is VCD_1 + VCD_2 spwecs. 2 is better.

Just got Terran'sMedia Cleaner Pro, but have not played with it much. Most say MCL is the standard.

Yes, Nero to burn VCD.
