Camcorder to DVD HELP!

I have a lot of videos im putting on my new laptop... yes i have a DVD burner. I'm using a firewire port from the camcorder to the pc. I've captured video (using the windows video capture program that XP gives you) and used the program that fujistu gave me with the laptop. I captured a little video to test it out, and opened the burning program, and it said it needed to be in MPEG form. Well the program that XP gives you doesnt have an MPEG setting. Do i need to convert? How do i do this.. im very new to capturing video (obviously). Thanks for all your help, i really want to get this recorded.
