My wife and I got a bunch of Caphalon commercial nonstick pans for our wedding.

They are the biggest POS I've ever seen in my life. The non-stick coating only lasts a few months before wears off.

My advice: go with the Calphalon commercial hard-anodized or better yet a brand like All-clad.

Huh? couple months? What were you washing them with? There is a special sponge you buy. We've had ours for a year and there isnt a scratch on it.

Wow! Smoking deal isaaaaaaa! They don't do store pickups but you can take your 20% coupon in to the store with your packing slip and get refunded $6. I got mine on the way for under $40 w/ tax and shipping. They are the same price in store and online but most likely sold out at every B&M. I've really wanted one of these but there's never any deals on the 12 inchers. I missed out on that $20 8" pan at Amazon a while back and am still kicking myself, but this is one hell of a score and more than makes up for that lost 8".

sgopal2: You probably are thinking of Circulon or something. The Calphalon coating will last many many many years. That's why we pay the big bucks for them.

I have some calphalon "professional nonstick" pans and they're fantastic. Definitely worth the $$$.

Damn sox! I had no idea Amazon was selling them that cheap. Looks like maybe everyone is slashing prices for a new line due out or something because these never go this cheap and Amazon certainly doesn't "always" have these prices on Calphalon. They've got some great prices on other Calphalon items also - I loaded up my cart and called Bed Bath to cancel but was doubly foiled! Amazon discontinued the 12" pan and removed it from my cart and an NJ snowstorm has wiped out BB&B's call center.

Amazing how a great deal can become such a bummer when you realize you were this close to an even better deal.

Calphalon items sell REALLY cheap in Travis Air Force Base near Fairfield, CA

The 8 pc Professional Nonstick II set costs ~$250 on amazon but $160 no tax on the base
I recently purchased the Nonstick II 10" omlette pan on the base for $18 which comparablyl sells for $46 on amazon

But to my oroginal point:
This pan's nonstick coating is very durable compared to most nonstick pans. Since the nonstick coating is also placed over hard adonized aluminum, the nonstick surface will only partially wear off and the nonstick portion will remain within the "pits" of the pan.
If the nonstick coating wears off, just send it back to Calphalon and they will quickly and readily replace your pan free of charge.

This is a spectacular pan. The pan cooks VERY evenly. It's also probably more suitable for gas ranges as a the 12" diameter covers a substantial area.

I picked up a few last week. They have had these pans for a while.
Linens & Things and Bed Bath & Beyond have plenty of these. They always have promotions on these "TRY ME" pieces.
Last time it was the "limited ed" 10 in version for 24.99.
My linens & Things also has the Comm HArd Anodized 12in everyday pan W/ Domed lid ringing up for 29.99.

I have been adding to my Calphalon Professional HArd Anodized set with Amazon Friday sales ans well as the Linens & Things/ BBB coupons.

Don't Forget Linens & Things/ BBB accept competitor ads and valid coupons, while each store still accepts their own coupons even if expired (SO don't throw away coupons)
They (at least BBB) no longer accept competitor expired coupons though. Also Many will accept up to 3 coupons per purchase (They won't stack them though) instead of having to ring you up separate times with those 20% off single item or 5 bucks of 15 purchase.

I'll just say it doesn't get any better than the Calphalon and Emerilware and to stay away from Nordic Ware, T-fal and Regal no matter the price.
If that's too much info they can feel free to delete the post.

I own them all. All-clad is best for durability, heat-up, cleanup and sexy looks. Calphon standard anodized coating is the worst ever. The NS commercial stuff is worthy, though.

Worms I'm not clear on amazon removing something from your cart but that pan is available all the time there. They're not clearing out for a new line, they routinely offer select pieces for big discounts. My only thought is they provide a few pieces for cheap to get you to pick up the rest of the line? Not sure though.

I have used a number of these Caphalon non-stick pans these years. Each of them lasts about one year until those black materials (Telfons) came off and mixed with my food. I don't know if they are bio-degradable, but I am sure traces of them are that harmful inside my body.

Worms:

I was definitely talking about Calphalon "commercial" nonstick pans. Calphalon also makes a cheapo non-stick set called "Calphalon Pots n Pans" too.

IMHO I'd stay away from Calphalon. The non-stick doesn't last. The teflon wears off after 6 months and you're left with a pan that has gritty black residue on it that you can't get off.

The guy at the Macy's when we bought it said that even though the pan was like $100 we could always send it back to Calphalon if the non-stick coating wore off. WRONG. I contacted calphalon last year and asked...they said NO because the teflon wearing down was probably due to MY misuse.

Stay away from this POS. I've seen lots of nice pans, but the best is still All-Clad

Read the Calphalon warranty carefully:

http://www.calphalon.com/usecare7.asp

<U>LIFETIME WARRANTY

</U>
Every Calphalon Commercial and Professional cookware item is covered by our Lifetime Warranty. Pots & Pans from Calphalon cookware is covered by a 10 year warranty. Calphalon will repair or replace any item found defective in material or workmanship when put to normal household use and cared for according to instructions. Minor imperfections, surface markings as a result of shipping, and slight color variations are normal. This excludes damage from misuse or abuse, such as improper cleaning, overheating, dishwasher use, use of caustic or other unapproved cleaners, neglect, accident, alteration, fire, theft, or use in commercial establishments.

They getcha because they claim that all problems are due to "misuse or abuse".

Are you guys using metal utensils on them or just plastic?
All of the pans w/ non-stick coating are supposed to be used w/ plastic only regardless of what the particular manufacturer says and yes overheating can make it come off too.
(another tidbit from CR)

from playing with their web "find the pans that are right for you" it seems that the order of quality with calphalon is...

hard anodized (yes stick):
(regular?) >professional > commercial

stainless steel look:
simply calphalon > tri-ply stainless > commercial stainless

nostick w/ glass lid:
professional nonstick II

nostick solid top:
simply calphalon nostick > commercial nonstick

(is there a professional nonstick?)

Needless to say; a calphalon buyers guide would be helpful... I'm looking to assemble a pro/commercial grade set of pans and pots to meet all my cooking needs.

so far I have a nostick 10" wok, a 12" anodized everyday pan and now a 12" omlette nostick pan. Still want a square skillet, a small and large saucepan (and if the price is right, a 8 to 12 qt stockpot; y'know, turkey leftover sized)

I just got the 12" Anolon for $30 on the Friday sale last week, but it looks like it's a regular price.

Link

We also got an All-Clad Emerilware 8", and it's very good. Haven't tried out the Anolon one yet though. I don't know which is better, the Anolon or the Caphalon.

I do agree that Amazon has some great prices on pots & pans. We returned the Caphalon set we got for our wedding at Bed Bath and Beyond (ripoff), and are just getting what we need from Amazon.

Winston.

iwearnosox: I managed to get an order in last night but as I am writing this, they have again removed the "add to cart" button for the 12" pan.

sgopal2: Calphalon's lifetime warranty clearly states that it does not cover anything that could go wrong. All warranties make this claim but reputable companies like Calphalon will in fact warranty their product regardless of what the fine print excuses them from. I don't put my pans in the DW or oven and I don't heat them empty on the stovetop 'till they smoke like I may for an iron pan or wok, I am gentle when using metal utensils -- especially sharp forks and knives, and I have certainly never had the desire to use anything other than Dawn and a sponge to clean them. I don't feel like I'm treating the pans with special care but maybe I'm doing something you aren't because my pans are sure as hell not wearing out. And yes, I'll take All-Clad over Calphalon anyday.

pshlortz: Check out the ].Commercial Anodized 12qt pot, 5qt saute, and 12" pan for $99 shipped!
Not nonstick of course but damn good stuff at a crazy price. The frying pan alone usually sells for $99. Search the FW forums for a $5 coupon too!

Winston9T4: Anolon is a great brand but not at all comparable to Calphalon. Note that the regular price for the 12" Calphalon is $115

I just got this set at BB&B and used a 20% coupon I got in the mail. Even without the coupon, it's a steal! The stockpot is huge! Two lids as well.

It seems like every year Caphalon releases one or two pans/sets at a great price (see the 12" pan mentioned earlier).
