Calling Thinkpad T40 owners!

my friend has a T40...sexy laptop I must say (I love how it looks~~)

and he wanted to hook it up to my TV I'm letting him borrow so he can watch movies and still chat at the same time. Now we hooked it up and I we saw the TV was in black and white. Odd...

Messed with the settings....no cigar

try a google~ it seems other people are having these problems. I check the video out and its a S-Video (4 pin connection) and I'm running it through my s-video2composite adapter (tv only has composite) and the screen displays in B&W....no color

i tried it on my computer (MSI G4mx420) and it works fine....

We updated drivers...nothing

so being confused, I yield to you guys here...

anyone know what might be the problem, and can you see if yours works fine? Thanks

I had the same problem. I had a s-video-to-composite adapter that worked fine with my GF3 TI 200 but gave a B&W picture with my T40. I ended up just getting a plain 'ol s-video cable and it worked fine.

thanks....did more searching, and it seems s-video splits the colors and black and white for better clarity, and that color is C and b&w is Y. And the TV is ignoring the C values, and it thinks the Y is all that exists. The perplexing thing though is I wonder WHY it doesn't do that for my videocard

haha now im scared to get rid of my mx420 for fear i may get a card that does that also 😉
