Just bit the bullet and purchased off newegg a msi twin frozr 7850 coupled with free dirt 3 coupon.

Never purchased a twin frozr card of any model before but all the good word on them finally convinced me,so do these cards live up to their expectations and how are they treating their owners?

Damn excited about the purchase, just looking for those who can perhaps give thermal numbers and noise reports, basically their experience.

Wanted the game actually ,lacking a good selection of games.

Makes sense, then. I'm sure it will perform well anyway.

By the way, when it arrives, can you measure its length? The Newegg site says 7.7", which would be quite short (and is just what I'm looking for). That would make it the shortest high-performance, custom-cooled card available.

Congrats on the new card!

Termie, the new card has been installed for about 3 hours now,it is nearly the same length as the xfx 6770 that got replaced,so the size is pretty much right.

Got a 1.21v card stock voltage and its holding at 1050/1275 with a 20+ power limit setting,BF3 all maxed out with 55% fanspeed,it hasn't even went pass 59cel.

Freaking love this card, god only knows i am sold on the twin frozr design, first official card i have purchased that has not been reference.:D

Awesome - thanks for the info. Sounds like an awesome overclock you have there. Are those the CCC limits? I bet you could go higher if you wanted...

I cant speak for the 7850 but I can speak for x2 Twin Frozr 7950s that I had. Both came defective. The first card did not run hardly at all and the second card artifacted. Both brand new. Was a mess IMO.

I cant speak for the 7850 but I know many others with Twin Frozr cards that returned them for multiple problems

Using msi afterburner and even gpu tweak only show the max ccc limit clocks, nothing pass 1050 core and 1450 memory,i have found the typical overclock on this vcore is about 1200 and 1450 memory...i am fully stable at 1050/1425 currently.

Gotta figure out what program if any will allow me to push it to 1175 core...then i will go from there.

I forgot about Trixx, it doesn't run on my reference 5770. Can't wait for my 7850 to get here. Although it probably wont be here until next week. I just can't give Newegg another $3 for "rush" shipping. Why does it cost them more to get it out of the warehouse faster?

Edit: Trixx doesn't support overvolting on a 7850! That's because they don't want people clocking them up to 7870 speeds.

First time purchasing anything from them, been using a 9150e x4 and a 6770 for almost a week and it was sucking so bad,i ended up getting next day air to get this and a i5 2500+h61 asap to replace the crap in this gateway oem tower, and since i purchased it on Thursday evening,i just got it today, thanks to labor day weekend.D:

Shocked this card runs so damn cool,i just slapped a 120mm fan on the side on the vent holes, and the damn card refuses to hit 60cel..only a single 80mm exhaust fan as well.

The piece of crap xfx 6770 even at 100% fanspeed was running still into the 70's.....which is pathetic when compared to this 7850.o_O

When I do this MSI afterburner won't allow me to change anything except fan speed.

The same here, the program locks any core or memory adjustments, while showing 0+ and 0+ in the sliders....trixx isn't perfect either for me,despite all the hassle i have tried getting the stupid oc profile to load at boot,i have to manually enable the oc still every time i boot, while running into issues getting the stupid fan profile working as well.....

I have my 7850 at 1200 core 1450 memory now, hopefully this is stable, had no issues at 1150/1425 last night.

Its Odd.

The unlock feature doesn't seem to work with my MSI 7770 or 7850, as the Core/Memory sliders revert to 0 and don't save my changes when I save things.

Seems i have run into my final clocks of 1175/1450,seems nearly at 1.21v,every card is gonna run in the 1150-1200 core range and 1450 memory is almost guaranteed.

1200 core for me locked up BF3 relatively quick.

Welcome to the 1.2ghz club. These 28nm radeons seem to hit this speed very often.

Also, 1.21v is not that high above the typical 1.175 "stock" range. Sapphire tech support says anything <1.25v is safe for these chips. My 7850 ran 1.25ghz @ 1.225vcore.

Same thing with my card. I can't change anything except if I use HIS iTurbo program.

I wonder if it is MSI card specific. Congrats on the purchase, MSI makes good cool quality cards for the most part.

I ended up having some artifacts and a decrease in performance in some games,so it is right back down to 1150/1425 for the time being.

The only game pushing me to need some extra performance is BF3,and i already found some very playable settings,so most likely will keep my clocks at 1150/1425 for the time being.

The reason for this is because MSi removed a .dll file from versions 2.2.2 onwards.

This .dll file was supposed to be distributed by AMD in its Catalyst drivers but there was a period where a combination of new Afterburner software and old Catalyst software would result in rejected overclocks.

The resolution is to download MSi Afterburner 2.2.1, install it and store the following file:

atipdlxx.dll

It's probably best to keep a copy of it somewhere out of the 'Program Files' in case a future update deletes it.

Now you can just download and install the latest version of Afterburner and drop the above .dll into the install folder.

I managed to get my MSi 7850 Power Edition to 1100MHz on the core and 5500MHz memory clock at stock voltage (1075mV) using Afterburner.

I'll chime in on the HSF assembly being top-notch. I have 2 6870 Twin Frozr IIs CF'd together and they've been solid in performance and cooling in my not so accomodating case.

The 7850 chipset is excellent, so I really can't see how this combination could fail. Good choice. ^^
