I purchased this phone locally from a private seller. Its asking for a security code: after some research I found that 1234 or 12345 is the default code which does not work. Also came across this site text Nokia program that allows you to reset things to factory settings. The thing is I dont have a data cable. Is there any way around this?

Oh btw the guy I bought the phone from works at cingular. He thought he would be able retreive the code with the IMEI# and sim# but its not possible. He said that I would have to take it into a level 3 tech and they charge 40/hour. So if anyone knows of a method please share. If all fails ill just have to ask for a refund. Thanks guys and gals.

Most likely you'll want to ask to exchange for another phone. If the guy couldn't retrive the code through the IMEI# and sim# then you need a new phone.

lol.. I like your username

do you know anything about that program i linked? If i had a data cable is this a reliable way of going about reseting the code?

It would work if it supports the 8890. The data cable might cost you something though. If you don't want to spend anymore than you want then go and exhange for a phone that doesn't isn't locked. BTW, was it a refurb, open box, or what? Someone had to use it before you to set the security code.

cingular has a pretty painfree insurance program. u should be able to get a replacement the same day. have u tried other security codes? some of the default ones ive encountered are 12345, 1234, 1111, 11111

On my last SPCS LG phone, the default lock code was the last 4 digits of the account holder's social security number (!)
