Cliffs:
- I'm working on a web project about eating etiquette around the world.
- I'm struggling to find relevant video clips
- I need your help
- The specific areas are discussed in italics
- Needs to be PG-13 or less, teh funny = teh good!

Let me predicate with 'I'm not asking anyone to do actual work for me'

I'm taking a web design class and I'm trying to find some video files relevant to a site I'm working on for a group project. It's purpose is to educate people about eating ettiquite(sp?) in various cultures. We've created an interactive quiz, but I wanted some short video files to go with each question. They don't have to be an exact match, just something loosely relative to the culture and food (mostly for entertainment value). Here are the areas I'm trying to match...

China - Regarding cleaning your plate.
In China, finishing everything on your plate is considered rude because somebody might think you didn't get enough to eat and you're still hungry

Austria - Regarding 'Cheers!'
Austrians acknowledge each other's existence by looking directly into each other's eyes while clinking glasses.

Iran - Regarding eating with your left hand.
Actually, in Iran, people eat with their right hands only. The left hand is considered gross because it is used for, well, toilet purposes

Spain - Regarding dirty napkins, etc.
In snack bars in Spain, they sweep everything up at the end of the evening -- you're expected to dump stuff on the floor

England - Regarding eating w/ hands
The English say if there are no utensils around, it's okay to eat with the hands. Asking for utensils would be an insult to the cook...

France - Regarding ketchup
Asking a chef for ketchup in France would be an insult... it means that you don't like the food

Germany - How to cut a potato
With a fork of course. Everyone in Germany knows a fork makes a nice rough cut in the potato to hold all that rich, beefy German gravy.

Canada - Saying "Thanks for the meal"
Yes indeed, burping is considered a sign of thanks.

Poland - Regarding flipping your fish over
There's an old wives' tale in Poland that flipping over a fish in a plate will flip over the fisherman's boat in the water.

Scotland - Regarding homework after dinner
In many parts of Scotland, lunch is called "dinner", so kids are likley to be still in school "after dinner".

Japan - Regarding slurping noodles
Edit: I've got this covered! I found this great clip that makes you think the woman is giving a BJ. In reality, she's eating noodles
In Japan, Slurping noodles is a compliment to the chef. It means you like your food so much, you can't wait to get it in your mouth.

I'll keep looking on my own, but if you guys happen to have some great vid clips relative to the above areas that you don't mind sharing, I'd greatly appreciate it x 100,000,000!

Funny is good, keep it PG-13 or less. ;)

Thanks again!!

We're really just re-inventing the "Don't gross out the world" website found here, but we're not publishing out site, it's just for school so we figured no harm.

I think ATOT users of different ethnicities ought to make you their own videos of their cultural eating styles.

Actually, that would be cool! I doubt it would happen, but cool none the less. Any takers?

I uploaded two clips. I will remove them tomorrow.

Austria - Regarding 'Cheers!'
Austrians acknowledge each other's existence by looking directly into each other's eyes while clinking glasses.

No cheering, but beers and eye contact
(On a side note, eye contact while cheering is important in Switzerland, too!)

Germany - How to cut a potato
With a fork of course. Everyone in Germany knows a fork makes a nice rough cut in the potato to hold all that rich, beefy German gravy.

It's not a fork, but it slices and... uhm.
(It's common to use the fork but you won't get strange looks using the knife)

Poland - Regarding flipping your fish over
There's an old wives' tale in Poland that flipping over a fish in a plate will flip over the fisherman's boat in the water.

This boat nearly flipped

I'll keep looking on my own, but if you guys happen to have some great vid clips relative to the above areas that you don't mind sharing, I'd greatly appreciate it x 100,000,000!

I recommend AltaVista.
