Specs

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Corsair 2x512 XMS Platinum
7950 KO EVGA
Opteron 165, newer stepping.

I have read the nice articles, but I guess I am missing something...the CPU speed is actually going down.. below are my settings. I really appreciate your help in this...I would love to get this thing to at least an Opteron 180 speed.

BIOS 5

BIOS 4

BIOS3

BIOS 2

BIOS 1

I will continue to read...also, would it be better to use the AI or other features or stick with manual?

thanks so much....

UPDATES
OC1

OC2

OC4

Any other adjustments recommended such as voltage or memory settings?

Thanks again..

You have the CPU multi set to auto.
Change it to manual and I set it to the max (what is it 9x?)

And watch your K8 to NB hypertransport multi. keep it around 1000. So 250mhz would be max for 4x anything above that you'd switch it to 3x.

The memclock value is the divider. Set it to 200mhz to keep 1:1 ratio with the processor. Set it lower (i.e. 166mhz) to have it divide into a lower speed. High will multiply it to a higher speed. So your actually multiplying your ram speed by I think 2x. :p Although I'm not sure how it exactly works.
I forget the other settings. CPU's aren't my strong point.

I'd stick to doing a manual config. You'll probably get a high overclock out of it anyway.

Have you looked at this:

CPU multi needs to be set to 9x manually.
I'd set vcore to 1.4V too.

As for RAM, on Asus mobos, DDR400 is actually 1:1, so that's correct if your RAM can overclock very well, but i don't see that happening.

So for now set it to DDR200 or DDR266 with the main four timings manually entered, & i'd suggest the rest left at auto till you find the CPU's max.

I'd go ahead & set Hyper Transport Frenquency to 3x too, since you'll be able to go well over 250.

How come on mine then (A8N32-SLI Deluxe) the memclock value of 200mhz results in a 1:1?
And DDR400=200mhz right?

Ah crap sorry

You're right.

I don't know why i was thinking DDR400 = 1:1.

OP, disregard my stupidity sorry.

You want to be using the DDR100/133 dividers not 266/333.

I have some things going..and am at 2.6 i believe...with a slight increase in cpu voltage...

i am not quite sure about the dividers you are talking about... do you mean the memclock index value setting? do i need to up the ddr voltage any? what timings for the others (memory should i set); CORSAIR pc3200 XMS Platinum..

thanks for all the help here...i will get it soon...

Your memclock value is still at 400mhz.

You'll want it in the 133/166 range to effectively divide the FSB

okay

perhaps that is the problem...

i will give it a shot....thanks for the reply...any thing else with the timings?

Yeah you are still running the RAM 1:1, so i'd assume eventually it would become the limiting factor, if not already.

Try the 266/333 dividers to go higher, & then worry about tweaking RAM after you find the CPU's max.

thanks for all the tips...i have it at 2.6...

using cpu-z says htt is at 885 and ddr is 188.....i guess i could go a little higher and see...i have it at 266

a quick question...i am running vista and have let it run quite a while at that speed...temps on cpu is still low, memory is not hot. nor is the nb chip..i have a new 7950 in there...and a segate that is pretty hot...anyway..i smelled something...hot...the vid card was running at high speed but felt cool to the touch...it has been a while...do these things "burn in"...and put off a little odor...i am replacing the seagate with a new raptor...and maybe i should get a new vpu cooler...any recommendations?

No.
Wouldn't it be the 133/166 divider?

Remember were not in DDR here.
200mhz is 1:1.

in the bios there is no setting for that...i had to set it at 266...

HT reads around 885....and memory is around 188 according to CPU-Z...

Should i go higher to get the HT at 1000?

JC

thanks again so much...I am learning a great deal....

HT speed matters not.

You can run it 600 MHz or 1300 MHz; there is zero performance difference.

Hence why it's suggested keeping it below 1000 MHz for maximum stability.

Sounds like you are running everything just fine with the 133/266 (whatever you want to call it) divider.

If you aren't able to get more out of the CPU, you can experiment with different RAM dividers & timings to max out your RAM then.

thanks....what about those memory settings in my screenshots...will that help a little more...I think i can probably go up to 300 on this chip and be okay....

thanks again so much
