I'm making a database for keeping inventory for a business. Is there a way to keep image files also into the database ? Because when I generate a report, the item of the product will show together with the details of the item. I would like to include a picture of the item too into the report.

I hope I sound clear enough.

Thanks for the help.

With the way that images are stored in a database, you're much better placing a relative path to the image and storing the images in another directory. Of course, I don't know if you can call an image by it's path straight from Access.

Well, I did think of that in Access. But I don't know if I could put a relative path to the images that are in another directory though. I'll try it out and see. Thanks for your input though.

cheers.

I've tried messing around with it, and if I kept at it I could probably find a way to do it. But it's not worth the hassle. Save them in another directory and just save the image file name in the database. You could mess around with saving OLE objects in the database, but that's a headache. Access doesn't really have a BLOB type either. Memo won't cut it.

Yep, you're going to want to simply store the path of the image..hmm, I seem to remember the example database included with access has some images in some of the forms; see how they have it there. Thats if the forms are within access. If you're accessing reports from a different prog just keep the file name & path in another field.

I think I didn't make it too clear enough. Let's say a customer wants to know about a product. So I query out the product and it generates a report that prints out the product information and details together with a picture of the product.

Skoorb - which example database were u looking at ? Hopefully you could point out so I can refer to that. Thanks.

BoberFett - thanks for your suggestion. Will try to play with it a little more.

cheers.

I remember playing with access there is a DB called Sweet li'ls or something like that. Look for all the .mdb files on your comp and when you find that one load it up and look in the forms there are some diagrams...I am not sure if the forms are changable dynamically though based upon info in the DB. I suppose you could write a simple asp page to do it but you may not want to do that.

EDIT: Found what you want - go to northwind database (also installed). nwind.mdb (if you don't have it ask me), look at the employee's form and open it. There is a picture for each employee and it changes within the form.
