Calling Dell ULTRASHARP observers and SONy Xbrite Obsevers

I was wondering if any here can give me some insight on how the ultrasharp dells compare to the sony Xbrites. If anyone is familiar with the sony Xbrites they know how bright and vivid the screens are. I was wondering how the dell ultrasharp technoly compares or if dell's ultrasharp is just what they slap onto LCDs with DVI input. Either way I'd like to know how the dells compare to the sonys. Because although the sonys are quite superb they are quite expensive but my main interest is quality.

If someone can provide some info between these 2 brands I would surely appreciate it.

thank you

I know 🙁

I bought an Xbrite http://img.photobucket.com/alb.../Picturepage330008.jpg

but then I realized I paid 448bucks for it!!!! $400AR

Granted it was for my upcoming birthday(tomorrow) but i'm thinking about bringing it back, biting the restocking fee and getting somethign cheaper. The restoacking fee is about 50 bucks which means I'd stand to save atleast 100bucks. But I dont want something that sucks because then there would be no point in getting an LCD :/

How does the xbrite look? If you like it I suggest you keep it and save yourself the hassles and time and $. Isn`t your time worth anything to you? The xbrite is a great display, sit back and enjoy it. Next time do some actual research before you purchase something like this. Whatever you bought yourself you most likely would second guess your decision anyway.

I posted pics above of my Xbrite compared to my Old 15inch CRT.

and I did ALOT of research. I was just wondering if the technology coudl've been had for less I suppose. I saw one nec Monitor with the similar technology, however it costed 500+. Nevertheless the Xbrite is growing on me. However, I'm not sure but I think something may be wrong with the backlight..or I'm paranoid. I'll post pics

WHen i went to circuit city i saw the Nec multisync lcd1769 sitting next to the song Xbrite 19inch model and the quality was exactly the same. I'm guessing they may use similar technologies but was unable to find anything mentioned after some extensive searching. I'm still thinking about bringing it back esp. with the recent backlight bleeding. Also, i'd really prefer a 19inch model to be honest. It would be a more worthwhile investment. in the sony's defense I must say using it then going back to a regular CRT is undoable. CRT does not even come CLOSE...but like all technologies i'm sure alot of other companies must have their own version...but have only found a few and an even smaller number of them who makes LCD monitors

It?s a great screen but:

1: I can?t stand the glossy reflective screen. (Is this integral to Xbrite tech. or just Sony?s need to be different: memory stick, ATRAC, .... ?)

2: The bases suck, the new model line looks like they suck even more.

3: Huge thick bezels

I agree but after getting useto the picture wuality, it's hard to use anything else. After seeing it then my CRT i could'nt believe I had used the CRT so long with such bad quality. It was blurry, had no contrast, and inferior compared the the sony Xbrite.

My one gripe with the sony is this:

17inch for 448bucks 400AR =not very good price perfoamance. Although, that seems to be the best price going do far. If it was 19inch or even 100bucks less I'd be able to deal with it. I'd even be willing to pay an extra 50bucks to go 19inch. I just feel as though i got screwed. I had to deicde between great picture qualty and bigger size/better value.

Also, there IS some blacklight bleeding it started off minor but has escolated somewhat.

in addition, i've recently encountered my first dead pixel.. a tiny red one. So i'm already leaning towards bringing it back...the question is do i exchange it for another one...or get something else.

I'd really like to find another monitor with similar technology or same monitor for cheaper price. Today I encountered some IBM LCDs in the lab and they could not even compare. However, with toshiba and fijitsu already comming out with their own version of the tech for notebooks and the previously mentioned NEC i'm wondering if there might be anymore out there. It also suprises me that alot of people are'nt very keen on the Xbrites...you'd think they'd be more popular...which only makes me wonder...
