So for the past two days I have been sick with a head cold. Then this morning i wake up with a bad ear pain. I cleaned the ear and even using this stuff from cvs. The major pain is gone but now there is a ringing in the ear and everything sounds hollow. (kinda like if you put a tupperware container over your ear). I know your responses will be go to the doctor and I already have an appointment set for tommorow but i want to get an idea of what it might be before hand. Anyone ever experience this before? Hearing is crystal clear one day and then suddenly your hearing is at maybe 25% the next?

It sounds like you have (had) an ear infection. I used to get them all the time as a kid. I got one a couple years ago and the pain was so bad I woke up in the middle of the night. I had been to the doctor earlier in the week because I thought I had strep throat (I didn't), and the doc wrote me a persecription for antibiotics. I was busy and didn't fill it, then felt better two days later. So when I woke up, I knew I had to get it filled. I had someone drive me to a 24hr pharmacy to get the prescription filled and I felt better after a day or so.
But I had the same problem - short-term loss of hearing in that ear and a "hollow" sound. It will go away eventually, but you should see a doctor to have him check it out.

Yes. It might go away on it's own, but that could take weeks, or it could get much worse. When I didn't have insurance, I waited one out, and ended up go to an urgent care. But the drive there was horrible, every bump in the road felt like someone jabbing my brain with a knife.

sounds like a middle ear infection (ome). get your upper neck adjusted by a chiropractor. if it doesn't go away in a couple days, see a medical doctor for some antibiotics, because it's probably a different kind of ear infection that chiropractic can't help (aom). o.m.e. is typically caused by eustachian tube stricture (which can't be helped by antibiotics, but can be helped very easily with a chiropractic adjustment or two). the other type of ear infection (a.o.m.) is a bacterial infection in the ear typically caused by unresolved o.m.e... that can only be cured by antibiotics.
it's very common for ome and aom to occur after having a cold, but your symptoms are more consistent with ome than aom. if the pain in your ears were to be sustained or lasted longer than just when you woke up, it'd probably be aom and you should see a medical doctor to hook you up with some antibiotics.

Hearing loss from an ear infection will not go away completely. It does cause permanent damage to a certain extent, so it may be a good idea to do an audiogram to determine how significant the problem is. It can go for better or worse, sometimes it may not return at all. Hopefully you're the former.

It doesn't sound like this is the case, but once I had so much wax buildup that it cut off my hearing... usually only when I was lying on my ear though 😕
Had it blown out with a syringe. EDIT: It was like you said though, perfectly clear most of the time, and maybe 25% when the wax was completely blocking my ear canal.

If it gets really bad, you might need tubes to drain some of the fluid. I had this done when I was 5. Had an ear infection so bad that I couldn't hear anything more than 6 ft away. I have a naturally high pain capacity though, so I never felt much in the way of pain. According to the Doctors, I should've been screaming,

If the pain is greatly reduced after a good cleaning then most likely you had a wax buildup and/or minor infection in your ear & now there is some leftover fluid stuck in there from the cleaning. Don't be surprised if your hearing seems better tomorrow when you wake up as the fluid will very likely drain overnight, however be sure to keep the doctors appointment to rule out a more serious infection or other problem.
