OK folks, I can't seem to figure this one out. Here's my system:
AMD Athlon 1000
Abit KT7a-RAID
SoundBlaster Audigy
Radeon 8500
Intel 10/100 Dual-Port Server NIC
Creative 6X DVD
Lite-On 32X
The problem (ok, more annoyance than problem) is that whenever I adjust the volume control slider in my System Tray, I get the a beep of my PC speaker rather than the Windows XP Ding.wav sound. All other sounds function normally, aside from a little crackling in the regular speakers here and there. (We can talk about PCI latency issues later). **This problem only happens when logged on as me. Any other user account and the default beep plays the Windows XP Ding.wav file. Note that my current sound scheme is set to "Windows Default"
Interestingly, I have also noticed that the PC speaker beeps as my new mail notification in Outlook XP. Related? I'm not sure.
Here's what I have tried:
[*]Changing the sound scheme -- Created a new one, specifying other sounds as the default beep. No luck. Changed back to Windows Default. Still no luck. Note that the sounds do actually play when I hit the play button in the sound schemes window, as well as when bringing them up in Media Player.
[*]Updated to the latest Audigy drivers -- No change.
[*]Logged in as another user, exported that user's entire HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents key, logged back in as me, and imported the key -- No change.
[*]In the Play Control equalizer (double-click volume control), muted PC speaker -- Still plays
I know that the easy thing would be for me to create a new account, and import everything into it, but at this point it has really become a challenge. If anyone out there could help me beat this sucker, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks,
