Calling All Winos, Frenchmen

I have a question about moderate-term wine storage (as opposed to short term = drinking it tonight, and long term = drinking it 10 years from now). I'll probably be drinking my wine over the next two months. Most wine storage guides recommend that you keep your wine in a dark place where temperature does not vary more than 10 degrees, but is above freezing, and below 90 degrees. Also the humidity must be around 75%. Now here's the dilemma. I live in a dorm. All I got is one room. The temperature fluctuates between 50 degrees and 80 degrees. During the winter, my room is fairly dry.

But I was thinking, perhaps I could put my wine in a refrigerator. The temperature in there is above freezing, and does not vary much. It is also dark inside my refrigerator. My wine collection consists of 2 bottles of Chilean Merlot, one bottle of Australian Shiraz, and a really ghetto bottle of French red wine called "Rene Junot". Recommendations?

Chances are pretty good that 2 months worth of storage in a closet will be no different than storing in the fridge.

My wife's very big into wine. We have a 500 bottle collection in a big freestanding wine celler in our garage. She's storing the wine 10+ years in some cases, so she needed the celler. In your case, I wouldn't worry about it.

D'oh. I don't even have a closet. All I got is a shelf about 10 feet away from the window.

I agree with Michael, short term it won't really matter that much unless you are the kind that sniffs the cork. Actually they make portable wine containers...sort of like humidors for cigars. That might be an alternative as well if you have extra cash..

Are you calling Winos 'frenchmen' or vice versa? And is there a difference as to which is more insulting? ;)
