Hi everyone:
I have a problem that has crept up on me since I did a fresh install of 2K Pro, and looking at the keys, I am sure it is Symantec (Norton) related. Here is the problem: whenever I install a new program, or occasionally when I run a program, I get the following error:
16 bit Windows Subsystem: system\current control set\control\virtual device drivers.vdd- "VDD format in the registry is invalid:choose close to terminate the application".
There is also a button to "ignore": most of the time, the proggy seems to run ok when I choose ignore.
Inspecting the above key in the registry shows:
VDD Reg_Multi_SZ (Value)C:\Progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.dll

I assume that Norton Utilities has somehow taken over this key(Sorry, haven't been dabbling in the registry too much 🙂)
Any help is much appreciated !!!

EDIT- I have tried to use the "repair" option on the install disk- same thing.

Start Registry Editor, by click, Start, and in the Run box type, Regedt32 or Regedit

Locate the following value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD

Click, VDD value. On the Edit menu, click Delete.

On the Edit menu, click, Add Value.

then type, VDD in the Value Name box.

Then click, REG_MULTI_SZ for the Data Type.

And then click, OK.

The Multi-String editor appears. Leave this entry blank and click OK.
