Hi,

Hopefully a helpfull ATOTer will be able to help here...

If anyone saw/watched/recorded the tonite sho on 8/11/06 and happend to see the Jeff Corwin's segment, I am trying to figure out what kind of watch he is wearing.

I don't have a screencap or anything, but it was a very large watch, the face was almost as wide as his wrist, it had a light tan leather band, and I think a gold housing w/white face

If this sounds familiar, or if anyone can help me identify it your help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

[EDIT]

this may be the pic: here

This is a better picture.

I'd bet my money on it being a Breitling, and I'm guessing it's a Navitimer. Note the prominent crown and the huge face. Not many other watches are that large beyond the Rolex Daytona and Panerai models, imo.

Thanks! that sure looks like the one... quick question though...

Because I'm short about $13,000 for one of those, is there anything you've see in the $100-$300 price range of comparable style and size? I'd prefer not to buy a cheap knock off... but...

I'm going to bump again for the morning crowd...

I found some sites that sell "top quality Japaneese replicas" for $150-$250. They look good, but you can never really tell untill you wear it. Does anyone have expirence with "Top-Quality" replicas, or knock-offs of the sort. I'm sure there is some pure crap out there, but is there anything that's actually worth the $200???

If I were to buy one of these fake Navimeters, it would STILL be the most expensive watch I own...

Am I making a mistake by buying a good fake, or will I probably not even notice the difference unless I train myself to spot differences?

Why not check out pictures of the "top quality" models, and the original watch?

Or better yet, view them side by side in person, if you can.

Then play the old game of "spot the difference"

this site is a scam... good thing I checked here

I purchased two watches from them about six months ago. An Omega 007 Seamaster & a Tag Heuer I Link replicas. I am very impressed with them-they look like the real deal & were well worth the money. I recieved the watches in less than a week after ordering-they came from China.

I am a bit of a watch afficionado - I have something like 15 various watches, almost entirely mechanical.

My own opinion is that spending hundreds of dollars on a replica is a bad idea. I guess it depends what you're after, but I'd rather put that money into a REAL watch that I can enjoy and be proud of. I used to buy $20 Canal Street Rolexes when I was in high school, but at that price point they were fun to wear and I had no compunction about the fact that they were fake.

The problem with spending $200 or more on a replica comes when someone admires the watch and asks you whether it's real (all but inevitable with Rolexes in particular - nearly everyone knows the name Rolex, and knows that there are fakes). What are you going to say? I for one wouldn't lie about it - that just seems pathetic - and if you admit it's a replica you, frankly, come off like the kind of person who'd spend real money on a fake. The other issue is that a replica will have very very little resale value.

I can't see Jeff Corwin's watch well enough in either of those photos to identify it, so I will defer to the earlier guess that it's a Breitling Navitimer. If what you're primarily after is a large, light-faced watch, there are many great ones on the market at reasonable price points.

Interesting... maybe the "impartial" review site is a fake to help set the trap for people like me...

Sure, if you like being a poser and a fraud :)

IMO, brand whores are bad enough, but brand whores that buy fakes are even worse.

[edit]I realized that might have come off rather mean. Sorry, just stating my opinion.[/edit]

Exactly. I would love the real deal, but my pocket book wont allow it. I had no idea what I would be getting when I ordered from the above website, but I was pleasently surprised at the quality of these knockoffs once I recieved them-well worth the $320 spent for the two.

Exactly, what i was going to say. When i was in college one of my non-collge buddies from HS had a fake Tag. He swore up and down that it was real, but the guy was a dope and either got taken or was a fake--just like his watch.

On topic, the watch is probably pretty pricey, but that look is very EASY to find in a genuine maker for sub $500. Plus, you cant tell anything about the size of the face or watch becuase you dont know how big that guys arms are. He is standing next to a frosh and is only a few inches taller! I doubt that watch is "big," but rather that he is a little guy. Have you ever noticed how big ALL watches look on that freak Tom Cruz?

True enough, but Breitlings are pretty big. Panerai makes some big watches as well.

My Oris is pretty nice and big. The TT1 Diver in black is a killer substitution for the Rolex Submariner...and to be honest I like the uniqueness of the Oris more after doing a side-by-side with my friends roley...it was 700 bucks new.

Furthermore if you save up a while, you can probably snag a nice seamaster quartz on ebay for 6 or 7 hundred. I sure did! :) An electric blue model.

P.S. I really wouldnt buy a fake. Look at the different Seiko, Tissot, and similar offerings and buy an authentic watch. Getting caught with a fake has got to be embarrassing. I know I'd notice someones ****** fake :)

You're assuming I'd be trying to pass it off as real... I'm pretty sure anyone that knows me knows I can't afford a multi-thousand dollar watch. The way I see it, I'd rather get a really good replica of a watch that I like. The replicas are easily as good of quality as authentic watches in the same price range, because they have the same mechanics and movements. If I'm spending $300 I want the best looking watch I can get. If that means buying a replica, thats fine with me. Once I'm rich and famous I'll replace it with an authentic...
