Calling all Volvo 740 owners!!!

I'm pretty disconnected as to the quality of car audio other than infinity sounds good, rockford fosgate sounds good and alpine sounds good.

Any info on cd/mp3 decks would be great too. I think I'm getting an alpine deck, but definetly open to suggestions.

FYI I have a '91 Volvo 740GL and may upgrade to an 01-02 audi soon.

I think the older one's either come with some base sound system like blaudplunk, or you can upgrade to a bose system. The bose has a sub, but in the interest of saving $$$$, I think we'll stick as base as possible. Have any suggestions for subs?

Best car speakers & $100 doesn't really fit 🙂

But for great speakers on a budget, I like Cadence

That would be a downgrade. Thank god my Maxima didn't come with a Bose system. I bought a Pioneer DEH-9800BT for my car, it's far superior to the bose crap the Maxima can come with.

For $100 a pair you'll get paper cones, the car probably has stock speakers that are better. Expect to pay more than that if you want good speakers. More than twice for the best.

Ehh... I'll consider going to ~$150 and I have room for tweeters but a component system runs $200-250 for a pair right? That's a little expensive. I realize bose is crap, that's why I said I don't want that option. Can someone just roll some names off and possibly the model numbers for really GOOD speakers?

The Bose system in the 07 GMC Yukon my parents bought last week sounds pretty good. It's a little muddy, but definitely better than the POS that was in their old Ford Exploder. I've heard good and great systems and the Bose one doesn't match any of those. But it sounds good enough. Much better than most stock car systems do anyways. It definitely doesn't suck.

A component system won't do you much good without an amp. Your door fits 5 1/4" speakers according to Sound Domain.

Check out the Cadence Sound TXS-55

If you buy an Audi, you should be happy with the stock system...VAG's tend to come pretty well-equipped in that regard from the factory

You're confusing "trembling in fear" with "shaking with laughther."

If you want something that sounds pretty good for around that price, Infinity Reference series is alright. JBL is another one to consider. Crutchfield often runs specials on Infinity and JBL (and other) speakers. If savings is a big concern, definitely purchase your speakers online.

get a used alpine 9813 on ebay to play mp3s.. for 100-150$
for speakers, any sensitive coaxial pair from a good brand (boston, jbl, etc)

in a recent upgrade for my sisters car i was torn between infinity reference and polk db series. I ended up with the polk. 6.5 in the front and 6.75 in the back. They were 150 shipped on crutchfield, and included was a pair of adapters and some wire adapters, bought another pair because 1 pair wasnt enough. I think they sound great, especially for the price. I have some dhds in my car but i rather her polks.

Actually, here's my suggestion: Go to as many stores as you can and listen to the speakers in your price range in person. Find people who own your car who have upgraded their speakers and listen to how it sounds.

Alright... thanks guys. I'll head down to cc or tweeter or something and shop around, keeping the polks in mind. I don't know a whole lot of people with the volvo 740, maybe I'll change the title of this thread to "Calling all Volvo 740 owners!"

Cool. I know Tweeter carries Focal and their Access line is pretty close to your price range. Some people love them, but they're a little top-heavy for me...

I got the Polks DB as well.

I have Boston Acoustics hooked up to a Rockford Fosgate amp. Boston Acoustics are known to have amazing clarity, and I'll tell you that they do.
