CALLING ALL VISIONEER SCANNER USERS![update] Nope! none of the suggestion would work!

OK, I am frustrated now! I've tried paperport for the last two days and still have no clue on how to set this thingy up. Basically, I just want to scan the pics and save it as JPEG file. By default, it stores image as bitmap file, which is too large a file for me. I know the advantage to the bitmap file is that I can change color setting and have some other effect on the picture. But I really don't need all this. Also, I want to be able to store the file to the destination of my wish...how do I set this thing up? Sorry, I am new at this.

Been a while since used but key word here is EXPORT.
Once scanned and ya got your thumbnail on the *Paperport desktop*
right click on it and should have option to export, (file
type, and comp. % ratio when choosing jpeg), and what DIR you
want to save it in.

I am not at the computer with the scanner. I am assuming you are using the onetouch application. If you are you can right click on the onetouch bar and configure it. Then you select the tab for scanning and you can change the settings. There should be a setting that has something such as save as bmp that you need to change to jpeg.

Since we are on the subject of Visioneer scanner and XP, I recently got the Visioneer 4800 USB and the problem is that after I log on the system sits there for like 10 seconds, then the scanner makes some noise, then 10 more seconds of no activity then the desktop shows up and everything works fine. If I uninstall the driver then it boots right up, but obviously the scanner doesn't work then. I tried the XP drivers from Visioneer and the Microsoft driver from the windows update site.

Anyone one experience anything like this with a scanner? Is there any way to avoid the long pause of no activity on boot up?

TIA

Nope, none of the above suggestions would work. This is strange, I click once on the picture I just scanned, then go to file and only import is available not export. And no, right click on the pic won't give me either import or export. (it does give me export option if I click on the sample pics). I don't know what I do wrong.......and to Downgrade, NO! There is no such thing "save" or "save as" in paperport.
looks like we need to brainstorm again.

I have the exact same problem with a Visioneer that a customer bought. I haven't a clue. I looked through every option and just decided they didn't provide that option for the one-touch. But if there is a way, I am sure she would be very happy because she hates having to take it to Photosuite to save it as a jpeg.

oh no, are you telling me this can not be solved? AIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MUST IT BE?

its been a while since i used the paperport software... but this is what i used to do. i used to scan pics with paperport, via photoshop. that way, it scans and i can save it as any file type i want right away. i do not recall if i was able to save scanned pics as jpg's within paperport tho.

I have some cheapo Microtek Vantas scanner (which XP recognizes as a Visioneer 4800 USB) but I don't have the same prob that you're having. The scanner makes noise a couple of seconds after it shows the logon screen or while i'm logging in to my account, but the computer never pauses while doing so. I'm using the drivers that came with XPl.

I have tried several different drivers....tried Fast Boot from MS...nothing...this is annonying me to the point where I think I am going to sell the scanner.

Installing just the drivers, not any software that came on cd does this. Installing software doesn't change anything....

Soon to give up...

Is it possible to disable the scanner's startup exe? On my 8100 and old rebadged 3100, you are not required to load any driver during bootup. Only when I load an application does Windows begin looking for the scanner.

What version of PaperPort are you using? I am using PaperPort 8.0 and it does have "save as" in File and as an option on a right click.

Why not just set one of the buttons to scan directly to Photoshop?

From there you can save in any format you please...

not sure if solved your problem.. why not just open up the .bmp file in something like photoshop, painshop pro, etc.. some photo editing program... then use "save as" as someone suggested earlier for paperport (but doesnt offer that option)? that allows you to change the format of the picture to whatever you want.. 🙂

if you already figured out a workaround, sorry... was doing a search for scanner tips and came across this. just got myself the visioneer 8100 for $10 after MIR (not as sweet as the free after MIR but good enough for me.. missed out on the latter).
