Hey guys I know there are a few snake knowledgeable people on the board and I need some help.

My family and I have recently moved to Northern Italy about 1/2 our west of Venice, lots of vineyards and small farms. We're also by a lake.

I've got an 11 month old son in tow so I just want to make sure this snake isn't poisonous. We found the snake skin in the front yard today. I'm going to be calling an exterminator (or what ever they're called over here) tomorrow. I'd try to call one now, but it's already 7pm over here.

I took some pics of the skin and was wondering if anyone could help me identify it.

First the size... big ass motherf-cking snake!

... And yes I will request that the snake wrangler nuke it from orbit. Thanks doods!

Considering the skin is inside-out, and the scale cells look like they're mostly transparent, thus making any pattern difficult to see at best, I doubt it's going to be easy to identify.

Yeah it looked like the skin was sitting out there all day today and it was pretty warm, plus the ants were getting to it. But those are the best angles I could get as the skin was dry and flaking.

I thought bull snake at first as well, being a native of California, but then I remembered I was in Italy ;)

I'm no snake expert, but that floor is pretty ugly.

I've noticed Italians do have a different sense of styling...

something like this. skin looks identical to my corn snake's skin, but I think most skin shed from many types of rat snake would be similar.

based on where you live (vineyards and farm), I'd say 98% chance it's nothing more than a rat snake of some sort (non-poisonous).

Not sure what species hang out in N Italy, but there will always be plenty of ground rodents in places like that to keep the local constrictors happy.

I wouldn't even worry about it. Most likely a harmless (to you and family at least) constrictor. Let it go about its business, which means eating rodents and possibly smaller snakes.

Really hard to tell from just the skin, but an exterminator probably isn't necessary. The snake probably isn't poisonous, and even if it is, it's probably gone by now.
