Will any of you guys come over help a fellow AT'er do the wiretrick on my 1.8 P4. I'm in Fremont for a week on spring break but i go to school at UCI. I tried it already and i shorted the cpu and mobo... luckily newegg let me RMA'd it.. this cpu is stable at 2.4!!! its just the p4t-e doesnt have a pci/agp divider so i have to use dip switches... I'll pay you!!! I want my 1.8 at 2.4 but i'm too scared to attempt the wire trick again!!!

Someone posted about having success using defogger paint (like what is used on the AMD's unlock mod) to bridge those pins. If you have a good magnifying glass, you should be able to it with defogger paint very easily.

I still think you should give the wire another try. Conceptually, it is pretty straight forward what you need to do - connect 4 pins. Use a single strand out of a fragmented speaker wire.

i'm trying to do the easiest one- the 1.7V mod connecting pin 3 and 4. I just dont wanna mess up again. The instructions seem pretty straight forward but the last time i did it, it didnt work and when i took the cpu out, i noticed that one of the pins melted and so did the wire! My cpu is stable at 2.4 using the bios, but i'm not to sure i wanna run my harddrives on a 44mhz pci bus since the bios doesnt have the dividers.. someone wanna come and help me =) Cmon thats 20 bux for 10 minutes of work!

Since you are attending UCI, why not ask couple of EE students to check your work and go for it. Just do it carefully and have some one check your work before power it up.

The defogger kit is the easiest way IMO. Kit cost 10 bux. The application was easy. use a toothpick to fill the area between the pins. TOok me about 15 minutes to pull the HS/FAN and CPU. Apply the fogger paint stuff. Cleaned the cpu and the HS of the original pad. Lapped the HS a little. Then reinstalled. Make sure you give the stuff a good 15 min or so to dry before you install it though.

does anyone know why my pin would melt before? i used a fine strand of copper.. the thing literally melted... i think i'm not gonna do it and jes wait... thanks for all the tips guys.. i read it all before... i'm jes scarred from the first time i did it.. dont wanna risk it cuz i'm not sure of myself...

the wire probably got over on another pin and caused this. With the defogger kit, you take the toothpick through the openings after your done to make sure its all clear. worked for me, but do it at your own risk.

sorry.. it was kinda hard for me to reply to this thread since i was at home on spring break and i only AOL there... anywase... any kind souls wanna help me out if they are in the area? I just want 2 pins wired... to get 1.7V. Offer still on table..

"5 dolla, 5 dolla I love you long time baby"! hehe

anyone remember that quote? I think its from um...some war movie...Full Metal Jacket maybe?

You really should try it yourself. No one wants to risk screwing up someone elses cpu. Thier own cpu its worth it to them, but the liability doing it to someone elses is to high.

I think leufkentechnologies.com is dong some unlocking on other peoples tbirds. You might wanna shoot him an email and see if he will do it for you. I think its 20bux or so.
