The new Sentra's (I think they are the 01 model) have 145 horsepower, and with the sport package don't look so bad. With a 0-60 of about 7.9 it looks like in a year I'm going to pick up a one-year old one, I figure I can get it for about $10k US (manual trans) - so has anyone here got one or driven one? They look like a pretty sweet buy. Not the sexiest thing on the planet but like a mini-maxima.

I have a 2000 GXE (the SE monthly pmts were just too high for my pitiful income) :(
I can't really comment about the SE's performance too much, because the GXE's engine/suspension are different. But I really like my car, it is roomy and comfortable up front and it came with easily the most options for the price. I have a graphite (gray metallic) version and it looks great. Good gas mileage, too. The rear seat is tiny, but personally, that is low on my list of priorities.

Thanks, the back seat is also low on my pririty too since the only passenger is either my girlfriend or briefcase.

The monthly payments on SE are pricey, but I want some speed thus I'm willing to go with a used one :) The GXE looks pretty nice, its between the SE and XE right..?

Next year Nissan might release the Sentra SE-R! It would have more horsepower and a more sporty suspension. They are looking at around 165hp coming out of a brand-new spanking 4-cylinder engine with variable-valve timing. However when it is going to be released is questionable. It could be released next year or the year after. Rumours are flying around, but there will be a new Sentra SE-R!!! I would wait for that. If you can wait one year for a Sentra, you can wait another for a Sentra SE-R...!

UPDATE: I've read in the Fresh Alloy forums that the new Sentra SE-R is slated to be released in Spring of 2001. It's gonna be more powerful and have better handling. It's gonna be a winner!
