Calling all NASCAR fans

I have heard that many NASCAR fans hate Jeff Gordon. Personally, he has always been my favorite. Is there any truth to the rumor that Gordon is widely despised? If so why?

People hate him for the same reason people hated Dale Earnhardt, because when either one of them are (were) on, you aren't (weren't) going to beat them.
Same reason some people didn't like Jordan. (blasphemers)

People that say guys are gay are more than likely nothing more than jealous of the other person's status and are making up a reason to dislike them because they can't come up with a valid reason.
Also a very shallow reason to dislike someone... ihmo

I don't think that Gordon is gay (he'd be crazy to be with a wife like that)

I don't think he's gay, but I don't like him much. Truthfully, though, he's matured dramatically with the challenges he's faced recently. I didn't think he'd bounce back to win races, but he has!

Even if drivers don't like each other should they intentionally ram people after the races (like Tony Stewart)? I would tend to say no but then again the stresses and pressures of running one of those races are amazing. Maybe Stewart just snapped that one time?

I've been discussing this a lot at work lately. A guy i work with is totally convinced that the only reason that Gordon wins any races, is because NASCAR deems it so. He so believes the conspiracy theory, that he provided so many examples to back up his theory, *I* almost started to believe it. I wouldnt be surprised if something like that was going on (how else to explain him winning the Winston in a backup car?) but I'd rather not know if it was true, it'd take the fun out of it.

Why did Stewart get sent to the rear of the field for going into the pits if the race &quot;had not officially started&quot; as Nascar claims?

Have you ever seen a race where Gordon is just about to go a lap down and then a miraculous caution comes out for debris on the track?

The simple fact is he?s a good driver with a good car. I think the reason people hate him, is because he won so much when he first started. Most people don?t like seeing some new guy come in and beat their favorite drivers. Some are just jealous because he?s rich and has a hot wife.

I was a Dale Earnhardt fan before he died but I never hated Gordon. Tony Stewart seems to be more of an a$$hole than Jeff ever was.

gordon isn't like because he is a dirty driver and then calls people out when they rub him. What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander. I don't think the fix is in anymore than the other marketible stars Jarret labonte, and wallace. Everyone pushes the rules to the limit not just gordon. I think he is a punk.

Gordon is a great driver, that has had a great team with some great engines. You put that all together and you got a great champion. I was not crazy about him when he was winning everything in site, but I now respect him as a driver even more. Some people just hate people that are winning all the time and stinking up the races. Similar when Earnhart was winning alot of races also a bunch of years ago. People just like the underdogs alot.

I think he is right. One of the biggest problems I see in racing today is a fear of real competition. Look at the IRL. When the turbine cars first came out and started winning everything they were banned, only enernal combustion engines would be allowed. I think that if the turbine cars had contiuned to race at Indy we would be driving turbine powered cars today. In look at a few year ago whrn the IRL changed the rules and said that everybody had to have the same engine type and use natural aspiration! They took a big hit in fan memebership and it was a huge loos for them becasue NASCAR stepped in a picked up all of their disgruntled (myself included).

There is a huge difference. Nascar is a sport of personalities. Earnhart would race you hard and didn't accuse other of dirty driving when they got the better of him (which wasn't often), Gordon drives hard and gets made when someone does the same to him by name calling and acusations of dirty driving. Gordon expects to kid gloves on him yet doesn't do the same. Classly winner yes Horrible loser IT IS NEVER HIS FAULT!
