Calling all motorcycle gurus

I really want a motorcycle, so for the fun of it I'm searching around the internet and found an old Ninja 250R for sale. After looking up what a brand new one costs on Kawasaki's website ($3000), I thought to myself "wtf"

Link to bike

And for those of you who don't want to click the link, the specs are as followed:

1995 Ninja 250R in good condition with 4,000 miles on it. The seller is asking for $2000

Of course, I need to win the lottery on my birthday to buy this, but hey, you never know 😀

I went to 2 different websites where I could enter the specs and they'd give me a bluebook value for it. One of them said 1600, the other said 1000.

ANy guesses to how much its really worth?

Thanks All

he's setting the price at 2000 so when someone counters with ~1500 or whatever, he's getting what he really wanted.

Exactly. In most private sales, you never really expect to get the price you list...unless it states "FIRM" on there somewhere. For $2000, I'd make an off-the-top-of-my-head guess that you could probably get a '00-01 (at least) model with the same mileage. But again, that's just a guess; I haven't spent much time looking at 250r's, so I might be off.

its a bit too much for 95, i would say for a 99 maybe yeah.. but not a 95.

i would set it at 1500..

atleast he under MSRP. i have seen on craigslist.org ppl trying to sell their ninja 250's for MORE than MSRP..

just because someone got burned by finance and setup doesnt mean you can recover that.

nadaguides.com places a base 250R in good condition at $1000 (no accessories like radio, cruise control, high-end exhaust).
kelly blue book places it at $1600

The thing about the 250R's (I have one) is that it has basically seen no changes besides graphics since 1988. So buying a newer example you really aren't getting anything besides, well, nothing. I'd say offer him $1500, just because you could find a 2000+ for 2 grand. My 2003 was only $2200 with 1500 miles.

ooooooooooooo... not just a bike, but a yamaha!!!

<--- yamaha fanboi, thinks 600R and R1 are dead sexy

edit: oh, has anyone driven in rain/snow? I konw its not the best idea (since you only have 2 wheels). I'm just trying to learn a lot before I even buy a bike. If I get one, I'm definitely taking MSF courses.

Riding in the rain is doable, if unpleasant. Be smooth on the controls. Watch for standing water, wet leaves, etc.

If snow is accumulating on road surfaces, do not ride. Period. Riding in the winter blows anyway.
