Calling all Linux gurus: Can I get my Highpoint 370 ATA100 controller working under Linux?

Lookin for a solution to this problem. I am NOT RAIDing currently. I believe that there are no distros that support this contoller out of the box, although I could be wrong. So, how do I get this option to work. I am flexible on the flavor of Linux, so let me know if any of you have ever tried this setup.

Red Hat 7 does I believe, also, I think (could be wrong) that Mandrake 7.2 does... Red Hat 7.1 BETA will also (All 2.4.x kernels do as I specifically remember the setting in the config)...

I used to have an Abit KT7-RAID motherboard which (as you probably know) has an onboard HPT370. You need to recompile your kernel if it doesn't work out of the box and if you can't find a pre-built one (make sure it's 2.4.0 or better) and turn on support for the Highpoint. There are plenty of HOWTOs and so on which will show you how to compile the kernel.

Hmmm... I'm not sure which distros have the 2.4.x kernel to begin with. Perhaps Mandrake 7.2 does, but I think that might be it. Anyway, I think I've made up my mind to wait for RH 7.1, but I have no idea when they are going to release that one. RH 7.0 pretty much sucked and was relaly buggy so I don't want to tempt it. If I can't wait any longer, I'll go for Drake.

Just get which everone you want and upgrade the kernel manually. It's seriously not hard at all. Unzip, configure, make deps, make bzlilo, make modules, make modules_install, reboot, and you're done. Waiting on a distro to come out with something seriously limits what you can do w/ your machine. I'm running Slackware 7.1 here which comes "out of the box" as one the the most outdated (but most beautifully structured) distros there are, but I've got this thing running w/ everything I want (kernel 2.4.1, Reiserfs, Xfree86 4.0.2, Latest KDE CVS, etc.).

Mandrake 7.2 supports it right out of the box in standard mode, not RAID. I installed it on my KT7A-RAID board with zero issues (except the NIC, but that was a whole 'nother story..)

Nice to know... Getting the iso right now for mandrake 7.2. I would get the distro I want, and compile the new kernel, but RH 7.0 pretty much sucks (installed it at work), so I think I'll wait and see what 7.1 is like. Thanks for all the tips.
